**ATTENTION DOG OWNERS**

Dog licenses and tags are now available at the Middleborough Town Clerks Office.

The annual dog licensing registration period is by CALENDAR year (January 1st – December 31st). The Town of Middleborough allows a three month “grace” period to renew dog licenses (January 1st – March 31st). Dogs licensed 4/1/2023 to 4/30/2023 will be assessed a late fee of $10.00 per dog. Dog licenses not renewed by May 1st are subject to a $50.00 fine. Late fees and citation fines are in addition to dog license fees.

  • New Dogs – new dogs may still be licensed at any time without incurring a late fee.
  • Documentation required to license dog:

  • Certificate of current rabies vaccination
  • Certificate of spaying/neutering
  • Dog license payment made payable to “Town of Middleborough” including self-addressed stamped envelope.

Residents may complete the dog licensing request form and submit payment through the mail, stop by the Town Clerk’s Office (Mon- Fri from 8:45 am to 5:00 pm) or purchase the dog license(s) on-line provided the dog has been licensed in the Town of Middleborough before at Town Clerk Online Payment Center.

*Please notify our office of any moved or deceased dogs including names.*

How to Obtain a Dog License

  • Licenses are issued each year, expiring on March 31. The renewal period for said licenses begins April 1 and goes until May 31. Licenses renewed after the renewal period may be subject to a late fee.
  • To obtain a yearly dog license, an owner must provide a valid anti-rabies vaccination certificate and the appropriate fees.
  • Any person who fails to obtain an annual dog license on or before May 31 shall be charged a late fee of $15 in addition to the license fee.
  • Massachusetts General Law requires that all dogs aged six months and older be licensed. 2022 licenses are currently available for purchase online and by mail. Applications can also be submitted in the drop box located at the Warren Street entrance to City Hall. Registration is due by April 30th. A CURRENT RABIES CERTIFICATE IS REQUIRED AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION FOR ALL NEW LICENSES AND RENEWALS.

Dog registration is the responsibility of the dog owner. As a courtesy, registration notices are included in the city census, are posted on the City of Gloucester homepage and Gloucester Daily Times. Expiration dates are also stamped on the Gloucester dog tag and placed on the receipt of the dog tag. Registration is required by law (MGL Ch. 140, Sec. 137 and GCO Ch. 4, Sec. 4-22).
