What breed of dog is Hulk? Get Your Pet Thinking

While pit bulls and other snub-nosed strong-jawed dogs are often seen as dangerous and unpredictable, this American pit bull terrier and bull terrier cross named Hulk, are sure to melt even the coldest heart. Not because he is fluffy, and not because he is tiny, but precisely the opposite – he’s the biggest pit bull that has ever lived. Being as big as he is (around 173.4lb and still growing), people tend to look at Hulk the dog cautiously, but his owner, breeder, and trainer Marlon Grannon of Dark Dynasty K9 trust this big softie to play with his 3-year-old son.

There is a beast with heart of cold stone that dashes like lightning, shreds flesh from bone. // Bewitched by this beast, I fell to my knees. My mouth babbled madness and mumbled soft pleas. // I stared down the ravenous, gnashing dark maw of a cute cuddly kitten with yarn in its paw

Pit bulls usually weigh around 30 to 60lbs, so Hulk exceeds it almost four times. This kind of size and mass isn’t particularly healthy for any breed – it impairs their agility and stresses the joints, shortening the possible lifespan. But even these risks don’t stop Hulk from fathering his first litter of pit bull puppies. Because of their daddy’s big-boned nature, the doggies are expected to grow to the same-sized cute pit bulls as Hulk and should fetch the owner around half a million dollars.

NEW HAMPSHIRE (WIT) – Meet Hulk! The aptly-named pit bull is only a year-and-a-half old, but he outweighs most of his human family! He lives in New Hampshire on a 150-acre, family-owned kennel that breeds and trains American Pit Bull Terriers as protection dogs, called Dark Dynasty K9s. “I want to emphasize that we breed and train dogs who come in stable. Our goal is to make these dogs fearless for the intimidation factor that protection dogs need to have, not for them to be uncontrolled and maul or bite anyone. That is improper training,” Hulks owner, Marlon Grannan told ABC News. Despite his size, his family says Hulk is actually a big softie. He regularly sings and naps with the family’s three-year-old and even takes him for rides.

According to ABC News, his family hopes that Hulk’s fame will help to educate the public on pit bulls and the misconceptions that surround the breed. His owner calls Hulk the ultimate babysitter and says the dog is just “so, so sweet.” “Hes a wonderful, excellently trained dog. He plays with my kid, hes great with the family and hes so, so sweet. Because pit bulls are only in the media when bad things happen, this myth of them as monsters gets perpetuated but its not true. They might not be for everyone, but under a good leader and with proper training, they make amazing family and work or protection dogs,” Marlon Grannan said.
