Nature’S Domain Puppy Food Review

Nature’s Domain is a brand of Kirkland Signature Pet Supplies. Its foods are manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods in four locations across the United States.

Nature’s Domain focuses on grain-free dog and cat foods. This help prevent sensitive digestive issues and allergies. These are commonly caused by grains like wheat, corn, and soybean, in pet foods.

Kirkland Signature’s pet foods, including Nature’s Domain dog foods, include probiotics to aid in the digestive process. In addition, all of the probiotics used are human-grade. This means that they are processed with the same standards used for human probiotics. Therefore, they are contaminant and pathogen-free.

  • AAFCO states that “Natures Domain™ Organic Chicken & Pea Formula for Dogs is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for maintenance”, which is an excellent endorsement to have for a dog food. This means that its nutrient profile is adequate according to AAFCO standards.

However, its ingredients fall a little short. Lets look atthe Nature’s Domain Organic Chicken & Pea Formula. I see organic canola oil, organic canola meal, and dicalcium phosphate. These are all controversial ingredients to add to dog food.

Canola oil is thought to cause health issues in humans. Additionally, there is not yet enough research to ensure its safety for dogs. Dicalcium phosphate comes from cow’s milk, which could lead to digestive issues in dogs.

So I looked at some of the other varieties of Nature’s Domain dog food. I found a few concerns in them as well. Lets look at Nature’s Domain Salmon Meal & Sweet Potato Formula, for example. It lists potatoes (not just sweet potatoes), canola oil, natural flavor, and salt.

Undoubtedly, potatoes often are covered in unhealthy pesticides. Moreover, the salt and natural flavors are a concern. Salt and natural flavors are additives for flavor. In conclusion, they are usually unnecessary additions to dog food.
