10 Week Old Pitbull Puppy

My boy Ace white pitbull weighs 15.4 punds in 8 weeks! I feed him home made food (chicken, beef, liver, organs + rice, carrots, beets, eggs) All in one food .. Also dry treats and food… He is not an AM bully…. 🙂 Its all in what you feed… thanked the writer. blurted this.

I have actually been keeping track of my puppys weight so when we go to the vet I can be coached on whether to feed more or less. So Far:

When I took him in at 9 weeks, the vet told me that I was way underfeeding him and that she could see his ribs. It sounded crazy because at 11lbs, I was feeding him enough for a 40lb dog according to the feeding chart on the bag. I am now feeding him enough for an 80lb dog and you can still sometimes see his ribs but 90% of the time you cant.

My guess is that he will be a really great size full grow, probably 50lbs – 55lbs. I want him to be able to run with me in the mornings and hike and be active so hopefully he doesnt grow to be too big.

Its very deceptive. I saw a Pitbull that was HUGE the other day and he was 75lbs. I honestly thought it was a 125lb Mastiff Mix…75lbs for a Pitbull is HUGE! You dont realize it till you see it in person. Anyhow, good luck to all and their awesome Dogs!

The people I got my Munch from completely lied about what she is. They tried to pass her off as a lab! She had cuts on her face, neck and belly and was obviously malnourished. I had the blessing of a female brindle who was nearly perfect finding me, after whoever had her bred her and dumped her (no collar, no chip) Munch looked just like mini Angel. Angel had been bred afree fighting, she had some wild scars, like a split ear. She was 65 lbs of muscle and love.

I saw these people twice with Munch, screaming at her to go to the bathroom while she was shaking in fear. There was no way I wasnt taking her. These people were tweakers (teeth and lesions give that away). Though they were insisting she was a lab even after I made it clear I love pits and would take her off their grimy hands, they wouldnt disclose what her parents are or how they wound up with her. They insisted she was a purebred lab. No way in hell she is anything but a week bit lab.

She just lost her first teeth so I know she is approximately 12 weeks old. She only weighs 14 lbs so it seems unlikely she is purebred. When I take the mutt for her boosters they keep changing their minds. The first visit they said pit/chihuahua but she was only 5 lbs and guessed to be 7 weeks, but she was also malnourished and beat up. The next booster when she was healthy they said Staffordshire Terrier.

I will get the DNA test when she is older to satisfy my curiosity. I dont love her less for being a mutt. She is sweet, safe, healthy and happy as can be. Thats all that counts.

I hope you guys posting about weight are doing so for curiosity and health reasons, and arent the kind of owners that have villianized one of the best breeds available by encouraging aggression. They live to please you. They are only mean if that pleases you.

Enjoy your puppies. Keep them loved and safe. Socialize them and help the cause. Lets get these sweethearts back in the good graces if the general population. Remember, if you have trouble down the line finding housing because of their breed, you chose the breed and you have committed for their life span. You dont get to change your mind.

Sorry to be preachy. I know 95% of the posters are.awesome owners. We need to shame those who fight and overbreed these loving, loyal dogs. thanked the writer. blurted this.

Dangers of stunted or accelerated growth

Pitbull puppies stunted due to malnutrition can catch up quickly when put on a proper diet with no ill effects. However, accelerated growth can lead to a lifetime of pain in the form of hip dysplasia.

Pitbulls usually stop growing around 12 to 18 months of age, and they shouldn’t get any taller after this age. As for their mature weight, that can take up to 3 years to reach.

Health issues that can influence a Pitbull puppy’s growth

Parasites are the most common factor in a Pitbull puppy’s stunted growth. Therefore, it’s important to deworm your pup on a regular basis.

Experts say that Pitbull dog owners should delay strenuous dog training until your dog is fully grown. Too much stress may cause your dog’s growth plates to deform, which can be a debilitating disorder.
