I’m not a big take-your-dog-into-the-stores kind of guy because my boy can get really distracted and he is a tall, 80 lb beast so can look rather intimidating but he is so friendly and fun. The other day, I had him in the van on the way to a park and had to make a quick detour to pick up some items in Home Depot and thought I’d take him in.

Well….he absolutely LOVED it and had so much attention from customers and staff. He is a super friendly dog and we met so many new people all through our boy’s trip to the Store. It was awesome and now I really get how much fun it can be to have your dog with you when shopping.

Here’s a list of current stores that are dog friendly. Pet Stores are a given Under Nova Scotia law, guide dogs welcome in all stores.

Dartmouth Crossing: Most of the stores at Dartmouth Crossing welcome leashed, well-behaved dogs in their stores. Just look for the “Pet Friendly Store” decals on doors. The only exception to this is, as far as I can tell, is IKEA and Toys-R-Us.

Halifax Quinpool Area: Quinpool area is a popular shopping district in Halifax and is home to over 40 pet friendly stores….

Their pet friendly programme is called Paws Here on Quinpool and here’s an up to date list of the many stores that participate and welcome pets. https://www.quinpoolroad.ca/pawshere

(Apparently, there used to be a pet friendly store guide on the website but it has been taken down.) As far as I can tell these are the pet-friendly stores in the area:

Atlantic News, BMO, Be Gorgeous, Better Than Her Boutique, , CIBC, Credit Union, Duggers, East of Montreal, Eastlink, Charm Diamond, Clay Cafe, Duly Noted, Jennifer’s, Le Chateau, LuLu Lemon, Roots, Rogers, Running Room, Sweet Janes, Sweet Pea, TD, Wildflower, Woozles, YKN Sunglasses

Sackville/Bedford: Canadian Tire, Cleves, Home Hardware, Long + Mcquade, Michaels, RONA, Scotiabank, Staples, TD, Wilson’s Gas, Winners as well as Cape and Cowl, EB Games, the Lego Store and Bouclair.

I don’t know about you, but every time I see a leashed, well behaved dog in a store, it brightens my day and the employees genuinely seem to love it!
