How often can you give Adequan?
Administer twice weekly for up to 4 weeks (maximum of 8 injections) at approved dosage of 2 mg/lb body weight (0.02 mL/lb or 1 mL/50 lb) by intramuscular (IM) injection only. Do not exceed the recommended dose or therapeutic regimen.
Most clients and experts in the industry have found that administering Adequan i.m. once or twice per month after the initial 1/4/7 treatment really has no additional benefit to the horse. The new directions are just as effective as the old directions, but have many benefits for your wallet!
Toxicology studies have found that when megadoses are administered, liver and kidney changes are observed. Even in moderately over-large doses, platelet numbers are reduced and blood clotting problems may result.
How long does Adequan take to work?
Within 30 minutes of injection, Adequan will start working. It reaches all affected joints within a two-hour time span. The medication remains in your dog’s cartilage and synovial fluid for three days. Your vet or vet nurse will repeat the injections close together for the first eight injections to keep the PSGAG levels maintained in the joints for a longer period of time.
After the initial injection series, most dogs continue to experience good results while on a maintenance schedule. Keep an eye on your dog’s mobility and pain levels. This will help you determine how often he or she needs another Adequan injection.
Several Injections Are Necessary Over a Period of Weeks
It is crucial that you understand that Adequan is not an injection that will be done once. Although injections can sometimes be the fastest means of treating a bodily problem, joint health problems are a little more complicated. Accordingly, anybody who wants to try Adequan for dogs should expect to go to the veterinarian twice a week for about four weeks.
The PSGAG included in each injection of Adequan will immediately start to bind to the cartilage in your dogs joints after being injected. Then, it will start to naturally reduce the inflammation and pain that your dog typically experiences. Finally, it works to stimulate cartilage activity and improve the lubrication of their joints.
How To Give An Adequan Injection To Your Dog
By administering Adequan® Canine twice weekly for up to 4 weeks (maximum of 8 injections), the drug levels are sustained in the synovial joints for an extended period of time —giving the active ingredients time in the joint to help slow the disease progression.
