Here are our top 5 things to do in the Smoky Mountains with dogs.

At the Cades Cove motor trail, dogs are allowed to travel the loop in their owners car. However, park rangers request that owners refrain from taking their pets to the historic cabins that dot the motor trail.

It is only on Wednesday and Saturday mornings before 10 am from May through September that the loop road is closed to motorized vehicles – so yes, it is open to hikers and bicyclists at all times, but only those two times without cars.

Does anybody know if dogs are allowed at Cades Cove? We will be in Gatlinburg for few days in June and we will have our dog with us. Not sure if we can take him with us on this walk or if we need to leave him inside the cabin while we are visiting here. He is an 11 years old labrador, very gentle and very well trained. We took him with us in several other parks, but we are not sure if Cades Cove allows dogs there.

It was really still plenty, though–a beautiful drive. We also took her on the two trails that dogs are allowed on, and it was really fun. We saw some wild turkeys and deer.

Yes, of course. Those times certainly provide a better experience; Id love to go up there soon and enjoy the cove without all the vehicles.

According to the Parks web site, dogs are allowed in the Park, but must be kept on a leash “at all times.” The leash cant be longer than six feet.

Chimney Tops Picnic Area

The Chimney Tops Picnic is a seasonal picnic area and is typically open March through November. From the picnic area you can see the top bluffs of the Chimneys, and it rests alongside the river. This is a good area to bring your pet as long they don’t become frantic around cars and other people as this area is popular.
