The Briard is an unusual dog in America, and it’s unlikely that you’ve met one before. Unless, of course, you have a holiday home in France, and then you probably have. He hails from the dairy belt of northern France and is linked to the town where the gorgeously gooey French cheese, Brie, is produced.
The Briard is a versatile dog who is a hardworking member of the family. He loves nothing more than to snuggle in the evening after he has earned his keep during the day. He’s great with kids, other dogs, and he slots himself well into family life. But, before you rev up your engine and head towards your nearest Briard breeder, there are a few things that you need to know. Because he is not for everyone!
Here we will run you through the good, the bad (if you can call it that), and the not-so ugly (because he is gorgeous) so that you are armed with all the Briard facts. If you think that this guy sounds like he would fit well with your family, this guide is a must-read.

The Briard is protective, smart, loving and loyal. They become very bonded with their owner and family. They are aloof with strangers, but not aggressive. The Briard is sensitive and obedient, but definitely have a mind of its own. They are good-natured and get along well with children they are raised with provided they are not teased. This breed may be aggressive toward other dogs without proper introduction. Temperament is both genetic and learned; so it is important to make sure that your puppy comes from a responsible, reputable and knowledgeable breeder. As well as socialize your new puppy as much as possible and take your pup to obedience classes to establish a great bond and rules for your pup.

Cropped ears are known to reduce the likelihood of ear infections, but the ears still need to be cleaned regularly as the hair can get matted inside and become dirty. Cropped or natural ears have not been known to alter the ability to hear for the breed. This breed does benefit from professional training from a positive reinforcement trainer, especially if the dog is to be a companion for elderly people, or be around children so the dog respects humans.

Briards dont very much at all. We had one and I lost more hair than the dog. They do need a good groom every week otherwise they mat very easily. When you brush them they loose a lot of hair but you can have black pants on and maybe find 1-3 hairs on it max if the dog brushes against you. Briards have sheep hair which cleans itself when wet and muddy – dirt will fall off when dry.

How Much Champion-Sired Briard Puppies Cost
A champion dog is a dog that had won top place in a dog conformation show. A champion-sired puppy is a puppy whose dad had won a title in a dog show. A dog conformation show is a competition that judges dogs on how well the physical appearance and personality of a dog conform to what is expected of the dog`s breed.
You may have heard of dog shows like the National Dog Show and the Westminster Dog Show.
Every purebred dog breed has a parent dog club that specifies what the dog breed is expected to look like and act like. This specification is called the breed standard.
A Briard puppy that is champion-sired carries the genes of a champion in it. Therefore, this puppy will most likely grow up to look like and act like a purebred dog. Furthermore, a champion sired puppy has some claim to fame because his or her dad is a champion.
Champion-sired puppies are generally more expensive than puppies that are not champion-sired.
The average price of a Briard puppy that is champion-sired is $2580, while the average price of a Briard puppy that is not champion-sired is $2000.
We obtained this information by analyzing the prices of 7 champion-sired Briard puppies that were listed for sale and 1 Briard puppies that were not champion-sired that were listed for sale by breeders.
Some Briard puppies come implanted with microchips from their breeders. A microchip is a very tiny electronic chip that is injected under a puppy`s skin. A puppy`s microchip contains information about the puppy`s owner.
If a microchipped dog gets lost, the people that find the dog can retrieve the dog`s owner`s information by scanning the dog`s microchip for the dog owner`s information. It will be easier to find a lost dog that has a microchip than a lost dog without a microchip.
We recommend that you buy a dog with a microchip or that you microchip your dog if your dog does not come with a microchip. This might save you headaches and heartaches in the future.
The average price of a Briard puppy that is microchipped is $2590, while the average price of a Briard puppy that is not microchipped is $2250.
We obtained this information from our detailed review of 6 microchipped Briard puppies that were listed for sale and 2 Briard puppies that were not microchipped that were listed for sale.
There is no real difference in the price of Briard puppy that is microchipped and one that is not microchipped
