The Victorious Sea Dog Blunderbuss was added with the 2.0.4 patch on June 19, 2019. It would be rewarded to every Pirate Legend who managed to earn the Legendary Sea Dog Grade V Commendation (240 wins in The Arena). The Blunderbuss cosmetic sparked controversy as it was initially revealed to be a time-limited item only granted to a select few players who managed to reach 240 wins early into the Anniversary Update. The weapon skin was first mentioned in a late May developer update, which stated that they intended to lower the Grade V Legendary Sea Dog Commendation requirement from 240 wins at The Arena to 100 by late June. Since some players had already reached 240 wins by that time, they decided to award an unique legendary item to any player who managed to reach 240 wins before the next major patch, with the new 100 win requirement unlocking the regular Legendary weapons. This decision was met with community upset, and as a result Rare altered their decision and make it so that the cosmetic will be available to everyone who manages to meet the requirement even after the patch. Even this decision was met with an outcry, forcing the developers to rethink their strategy. On June 5, Rare announced that they listened to player feedback and have decided to undo the lower requirements to the Legendary Sea Dog Commendation, keeping the original 240 wins as a Pirate Legend to claim the commendation, title, and unlock the associated weapons for purchase at the Athenas Fortune Hideout. This update also revealed the exclusive weapon to be the Victorious Sea Dog Blunderbuss, which was stated to be awarded for free to every pirate who would reach Legendary Sea Dog title before and after the next update. The Victorious Sea Dog Blunderbuss was silently (perhaps mistakenly?) released with the 2.0.4 update, however only those who acquired the title after the patch received the weapon.
