Cause: Potential for elevated levels of naturally occurring beef thyroid hormone. Announcement: Website announcement dated March 17, 2017 (archived here). What was recalled: 13.2 oz. cans of Wellness 95% Beef Topper for Dogs with “best by” dates of Feb. 2, 2019; Aug. 29, 2019; or Aug. 30, 2019.

Cause: Potential for foreign material. Announcement: Website announcement dated Feb. 10, 2017 (archived here). What was recalled: 12.5 oz. cans of the following Wellness cat food:

  • Chicken & Herring, best by Aug. 4, 2019
  • Chicken, best by Aug. 3 or Aug. 4, 2019
  • Chicken & Lobster, best by Aug. 4, 2019
  • Turkey & Salmon, best by Aug. 5, 2019
  • Turkey, best by Aug. 4 or Aug. 5, 2019
  • Beef & Chicken, best by Aug. 5, 2019
  • Beef & Salmon, best by Aug. 5, 2019

    • Cause: Possible moisture problems, which could lead to mold. Announcement: Facebook announcement dated Oct. 30, 2012 (archived here). What was recalled: Wellness Small Breed Adult Health Dry Dog Food, 12 lb. package with “best by” date of Aug. 18, 2013.

    Cause: Potential for salmonella. Announcement: FDA report dated May 4, 2012 (archived here). What was recalled: Wellness Complete Health Super5Mix Large Breed Puppy, 15 lb. and 30 lb. bags and 5 oz. sample bags with “best by” dates of Jan. 9–11, 2013.

    Cause: Unapproved ingredient (a grain called amaranth that was approved for humans but not for pets). Announcement: Article in the Albuquerque Journal dated Jan. 27, 2012. What was recalled: The state of New Mexico ordered the removal from stores of certain Wellness WellBar dog treats containing amaranth. WellPet said it would be reformulating the treats.

    Cause: Inadequate levels of thiamine (Vitamin B1). Announcement: FDA report dated Feb. 28, 2011 (archived here). What was recalled: The following canned cat foods and expiration dates:

  • Wellness canned cat food (all flavors and sizes, including CORE) with “best by” dates of April 14–Sept. 30, 2013
  • Wellness Chicken & Herring (all sizes) with “best by” dates of either Nov. 10, 2013 OR Nov. 17, 2013

    WellPet LLC launched the Wellness Pet Foods for dogs during 1997 and Wellness recipes for cats during 2000. Within 4 fours, this brand became the leading brand among all the natural pet foods available at independent retailers across the USA and Canada.     In spite of close to five Wellness Core Dog Food recall incidents in the past, the brand enjoys immense credibility in the pet market of the USA. This is because it makes a diverse range of pet foods that include wet, dry, treats, snacks and the like. What’s more, they have come up with different types of foods for small breeds and large breeds as well. All you need to do is to look at the label and choose the food accordingly.

    Thanks to the high quality of ingredients used in their pet meals, the Wellness Natural Pet Foods are now in high demand not only in the USA and Canda, but also in foreign countries such as Europe, Singapore, Australia, South Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Europe and Japan.

    The company has set up a huge manufacturing plant in Mishawaka in Indiana, where most of its pet foods are manufactured. An important point to note about the Wellness Core Dog Food Recall is that none of these foods manufactured in the company’s own plant in Indiana was recalled ever. This plant has been used to manufacture most of the Wellness Pet foods, including all the dry foods.

    Therecalls that happened in the past were all related to canned foods that wereproduced in a different location. On further research it was found out that theWellness Pet Food Company had outsourced the manufacturing of its canned foodto a company known as Diamond Pet Foods. The pet foods from Wellness areconsidered to be premium brands; therefore, thee voluntary recalls haven’taffected the brand’s yet.

    Dog-Food Recall Now Includes 18 Brands

    We just discovered that WellPet (makers of Wellness brand foods and treats) have started sourcing some preservative ingredients (green tea extract and mixed tocopherols) in China. Because of this, we have decided to discontinue those products. The Pure Rewards and Wellbites that are on the shelf are the old recipe. They won’t be replaced. We are sorry to have to do this, and we’ve told WellPet that. Wellness canned food will remain. The dry food and treats are out until they modify their recipes to stop using ingredients from China.
