AN INFLUENCER who allegedly abused her puppy to gain more followers has been arrested in Georgia.
Brittany Johnson, known as Lovely Peaches online, reportedly sprayed perfume in the six-month-old Jack Russell’s eyes, picked it up by its neck and claimed to have broken its legs.
The 20-year-old, from Louisiana, was arrested after Instagram Live viewers contacted the police over the alleged abuse of the dog called Max.
She was taken into custody after cops tracked her down at Motel 6 in DeKalb County in Georgia on January 22.
Johnson, who has more than 140,000 followers on one of her social media pages, had posted a picture with the dog on January 21 with the caption “As I Posted On My Personal Max is no Longer With Us Rip Buddy #6Months on this Earth Keep Me In Prayers.”
Despite this, the Jack Russell is reported to still be alive, according to Insider, after Johnson voluntarily signed him over to animal-control officers.
When questioned by police, Johnson admitted to making “statements on her social media about harming or killing her dog to get more followers on social media”, according to records.
The influencer has been banned from owning any pets while the investigation continues, a representative for the DeKalb County Police Department said in a statement published by TooFab.
It reads: “Until her case is concluded, she is not allowed to own or care for any animals.
“Meanwhile, her Jack Russell Terrier was taken into custody by Animal Services, where it was examined by a veterinarian and Johnson voluntarily signed over custody.”
She signed over custody of the pooch to animal services in Dekalb County before she was arrested on Jan. 22, the report said.
Several people called 911 to report that Brittany Johnson, 20, was harming her 6-month-old Jack Russell terrier and streaming it on Instagram Live, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday.
Johnson allegedly “makes statements on her social media about harming or killing her dog to gain more followers,” according to a police report obtained by the newspaper.
Tipsters also provided cops with videos of Johnson kicking and choking the pup, the report stated.
Johnson, of Louisiana, has been charged with cruelty to animals but was later released on $2,500 bond.
A police report obtained by Insider in February said Johnson sprayed perfume in the dogs eyes and picked it up by its neck while livestreaming on Instagram. Police say they responded to a call from a concerned onlooker and entered a motel room Johnson was staying in with the dog to remove the animal and question her.
On Instagram, Johnson claimed she threw the dog out of a window, causing its death. She also claimed to have broken the dogs legs. When officers confronted her, Johnson said the window in her rooms bathroom didnt open and that the statements she made online were “jokes.”
Johnson was detained in Dekalb County, Georgia on an animal-cruelty charge on January 22. She has since been bonded out and has been posting again on social media, including Instagram, where she has 146,000 followers.
“Thats not the attention you want,” another officer then said to Johnson. “See police here? That aint the attention you want.”
“Theres nothing wrong with that, but some of the antics you pulled on your Instagram, just, its not normal,” the officer said.
On a post regarding the incident in the r/lovelypeaches subreddit, Reddit user u/bovinelove claims that they have videos in their possession of Lovely Peaches killing a puppy, then appearing to play with the dead body. “I have the videos. Unfortunately. Here is the description I send to her ‘fans’ that are too sad or scared to watch the videos: I just want to warn you its pretty sad,” they wrote. They then went on to share a description of the videos (which, again, is disturbing):
At this point, Lovely Peaches is already in plenty of trouble with law enforcement due to her behavior, but there are still actions you can take to make a difference. First and foremost, do not follow Lovely Peaches on any social media accounts. If you do follow her, report the content that is against the platform’s community guidelines (and / or against the law). You might also consider signing the Change.org petition asking for her to be investigated.
Most people don’t need more than one reason to find Lovely Peaches’ actions reprehensible. I couldnt bring myself to save that one but I do have it just without the sounds. The next video posted was her flinging its little dead body around on her live while dancing and laughing. It made me cry when I saw it and Im a pretty dark person.
