Should I feed my dog after vomiting white foam? Tips and Tricks

What should I feed my dog after vomiting?

If your dog is vomiting, its important to withhold food for at least 12 hours. This gives their stomach time to rest and recover. Once the vomiting has stopped, you can slowly reintroduce food by offering small amounts of a bland diet every few hours. A bland diet consists of boiled rice or pasta mixed with boiled chicken or turkey.

Once your dog is tolerating the bland diet, you can start to mix in their regular food. If your dog continues to vomit or has diarrhea, please see your veterinarian.

When should I take my dog to the vet?

If your dog is still vomiting after 24 hours, if theyre showing signs of dehydration, or if they seem to be in pain, then its time to take them to the vet. Dehydration can be a serious complication of vomiting and can lead to other health problems.

At the vet, they will likely give your dog IV fluids to rehydrate them and may also give them a shot of anti-nausea medication. If the vomiting is due to an underlying health condition, they will treat that as well.

Throwing up white foam can be alarming for pet parents, but in most cases, its nothing to worry about. Just make sure youre keeping an eye on your dog and their overall health, and if you have any concerns, dont hesitate to take them to the vet.

Intestinal blockage

Dogs may eat things that aren’t digestible and can become lodged in the intestines. This causes a backup of digested food that will eventually reach the stomach, causing vomiting. Repeated vomiting may lead to throwing up white foam.

Other symptoms: Intestinal blockages may cause a decrease in appetite, stomach pain, and lack of feces.

See your veterinarian if your dog is showing any of these signs.
