Should I get a male or female teddy bear dog? A Complete Guide

You’ll need plenty of chew toys during teething

It’s pretty surprising to see your puppy chewing on something small and hard, only to find out that it is one of his baby teeth that has fallen out! Once a Teddy is 4-6 months old they will start teething and it will be necessary to invest in some chew-toys if you don’t want your wooden furniture to look like you bought it second hand from a family of hungry Beavers.

One thing that our Vet recommended and really helped our little guy during the teething process was buying a frozen “knucklebone” that he could chew on a couple of times a day. It was a lifesaver and occupied him for a good 30 minutes twice a day. You can buy them at your local butcher or grocery meat counter. Just be sure to store them in a zip-lock bag and re-freeze them immediately after your pup is done. Each bone lasted us about 2-3 weeks before you would want to replace them.

Other than knucklebones, there are plenty of other chew toys that you could get your Teddy Bear puppy. However, most of the “non-edible” chew toys made of fabrics, plastics, and cloth did not hold his attention long and he lost interest in them after only a couple hours. The chew toys that he would stick with the longest were the organic, edible, toys: raw-hide bones, knee caps, bully sticks, or anything else with flavor that took a LONG time to chew down.

Size

Teddy Bear sizes vary depending on their parents. Generally, most Teddy Bears are very small in size, growing no more than 12 inches in height. Teddy Bears also weigh 12 to pounds.

So the predominance of male dogs in sports may have more to do with their ability to be free from obligations than how easy they are to train.

Twice a year for three to four weeks, female dogs go into heat or estrus. At this stage, they become receptive to mating with males, are easily distracted. and may appear nervous. They also have a bloody vaginal discharge, which means you may want to keep them away from carpets and furniture.

Whether this is a big deal or not is a personal matter. If you have no plans to breed your female dog then consider having her spayed. Keep in mind that spaying is expensive and not covered by pet insurance.

The idea that male dogs are more aggressive than female dogs often arise because we generalize from our observations and beliefs about human behavior. The behavior of a dog will largely depend on how it is raised and trained as a puppy. Some dogs are more affectionate or aggressive than others because of the environment in which they were raised.

The differences aren’t as great as some people think. The main takeaway here is that nothing will ever be more important to a dog’s success in life than the care and training that their human caretakers provide.
