Who Won the National Dog Show Last Year?
Claire the Scottish Deerhound won Best in Show at the 2021 National Dog Show. It was her second consecutive year winning the award, as she also won Best in Show in 2020.
This is the 21st anniversary of the National Dog Show. It is also the first year that the 198th and 199th AKC-recognized breeds, the Mudi and Russian Toy, will be competing. Keep an eye out for the newest additions in the Herding Group and the Toy Group.
If you’re unfamiliar with dog shows, now is a great time to get learning! Study up on some of the common dog show terms you may hear during the show. Also, familiarize yourself with how a dog show winner is chosen. As a hint, the dogs are not judged against each other. Rather, each dog is judged against their individual AKC breed standard. The dog that best conforms to their breed standard advances or wins.

Nearly 200 breeds of dogs and over 1,500 pooches are barking their way through the 21st National Dog Show.
John O’Hurley and David Frei are back to host this year’s show. Claire the Scottish Deerhound, who won The Best Show Winner for 2020 and 2021, has retired after last year’s competition so fans and judges will be seeking a new winner this year. In fact, three new dog breeds will be introduced after the American Kennel Club added the canines to its breed registry.
The National Dog Show airs right after Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, November 24. The show will air from noon to 2 p.m. ET.

Hosted by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia, the show was founded in 1879 and has been held annually since 1933. The NDS is sanctioned by the American Kennel Club, and only purebred dogs registered with the AKC can compete”
