A collie cross its fairly obvious, perhaps border collie cross and theres a bit of info about the dog(s) in this movie on www.ahafilm.com or .info, the “interesting look” I think its simply because hes a pale colour so you can see his mouth more easily however I know what you mean so perhaps he has some spitz in there…

thats exactly what i thought, i used to have a male collie mix around the time this movie came out. he looked exactly like this dog and we also found him the same way, in an animal shelter. he came from an abusive owner but my family and i took good care of him. he passed away in 1999
Most likely a Border Collie cross; dont think the exact mixture was ever confirmed. Not a NSDTR. And the whole “mixed breeds are healthier and live longer than purebreds” is untrue. Theres no valid data to support that. There was a time when I was literally watching this movie every single day…thats how much I loved it as a kid, and like most of my childhood favorites, it shall remain forever on my favorites list. Its a quirky charmer.
